One of Mountain Home’s most popular holiday traditions returns Sunday as the Coulter Celebration of Lights opens for the season at the Arkansas State University–Mountain Home campus.

The annual drive-through light show, created in 2021 through a partnership between ASUMH and the City of Mountain Home, has grown into one of the community’s premier seasonal attractions. The features millions of Christmas lights, animated displays, festive scenes and synchronized holiday music.

KTLO News spoke with Cristy Keirn, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement at ASUMH, who gives details on “flipping the swtich.”

The display runs nightly from late November through late December and is free to the public, though donations are accepted at the exit gate. A portion of the proceeds helps fund scholarships for ASUMH students. In its first two years, the celebration welcomed more than 14,000 vehicles and raised over $77,000, with about $20,000 dedicated directly to student scholarships.

The event is powered by more than 150 volunteers each year, along with ASUMH staff and city departments. In 2023, it earned statewide recognition as the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association’s “Festival of the Year” for new events.
