A blocked field goal followed by a long pass play in the second quarter changed the complexion of the game and allowed No. 8 Oklahoma to ride its highly ranked defense to a 17-6 victory over No. 22 Mizzou Saturday at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers (7-4, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) opened the game with a 14-play drive that led to a 39-yard field goal by Robert Meyer. On the drive, three different Tigers had a carry and three different receivers caught a pass. Mizzou was dominating the game into the second quarter and had a drive that reached the Oklahoma 17-yard line. But OU’s Peyton Bowen blocked a 35-yard field goal attempt by Meyer, and three plays later, John Mateer threw a short pass on a crossing route over the middle to Isaiah Sategna III who broke free and sprinted 87 yards to the end zone for a touchdown that put the Sooners ahead, 7-3. Prior to the scoring play, the Sooners (9-2, 5-2) had gained only 20 yards.
