On the second day of a back-to-back the Bombers ventured down to Fountain Lake and defeated the Monticello Billies 45-42 in the final day of the Cobra Classic. Coming off a mighty 55-28 victory over Highland the night before, the Bombers were looking for more on Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers got off to a sluggish start in the first quarter as they were outscored 16-11 in the opening quarter. The same was said during the second quarter as the Bombers and Billies had 10 points a piece in the stanza and Monticello took a 26-21 lead into the halftime break. The Bombers woke up in the third quarter on the heels of 6 points and 2 steals in the period from Cody Cormican and the Bombers took flight going from down 5 to up 8 in the quarter taking a 39-31 lead into the final quarter. Things became shaky as the Billies would mount one last charge at the Bombers and would come as close as 3 points in the final quarter but would get no closer as the Bombers would polish off a 45-42 victory.
Mountain Home was led in scoring by Cody Cormican with 9 points. Jackson Corp and Drew Haney added 8 points, Landon Newton and Bailor Tate both chipped in 7 points, and Tayshaun Henry along with Rhett Gilbert added 3 a piece.
Monticello’s Peyton Strickland led all scorers with 13 points.
Mountain Home improves to 3-1 on the young season. They will be off until next Thursday as they will open up the Billy Ply Classic in Flippin against Batesville Southside.
