A Harrison man has been arrested for selling a truck in Baxter County through Facebook Marketplace that wasn’t his. Eighteen-year-old Joshua Alexander Cooper was arrested following the transaction Monday evening.According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, his office was notified by a person who said a friend was buying a vehicle through the social media platform whom he believed did not actually own the vehicle. The truck was parked just outside of Mountain Home and the parties were scheduled to meet at 7:00 Monday evening to finalize the transaction.

An investigator with the sheriff’s office contacted the victim who said he was going to purchase the 1983 Chevrolet truck for $1,000 cash. The actual owner of the truck was determined and contacted by the investigator. The owner said the truck was not for sale and he does not know Cooper.

The investigator accompanied the intended buyer to the meeting place where the purchase and signing of the bill of sale was witnessed and recorded. Cooper was then placed under arrest. When he was asked why he was attempting to sell a vehicle which did not belong to him, Cooper said he just “messed up.”

Cooper is facing a felony charge of theft of property. He is free after posting $5,000 bond.
