A meeting of the Baxter County Airport Advisory Board on Monday ended with discussion of new hangars and future business development around the airport.
The board is preparing to submit grant applications to the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics for the state agenda by February 2026 to fund an 80 by 60 foot enclosed hangar and a six bay shade hangar. The enclosed structure would rely on a 90/10 state grant with a capped cost of $500,000. An 80/20 state grant capped at $300,000 would fund the shade hangars, which are open-air but provide overhead protection for parked aircraft.
The proposed enclosed hangar would be built near the site of the airport’s newest hangar, which was funded in 2024 through a similar grant. The six-bay shade hangar would be attached to the Hangar D building. The board also noted that land remains available for private hangar development.
Members also discussed resurveying airport property to create new parcels aimed at supporting business growth. Currently, the area under consideration is platted along with the runway, limiting expansion opportunities. The airport includes roughly 62 acres designated for aviation use and about 76 acres designated for non-aviation purposes, some of which fronts Highway 126.
The board hopes the effort will create new opportunities for aviation based businesses to locate to the airport. Grant applications for the resurveying project are expected to be submitted to the county in 2026, with the goal of beginning the re designation process in 2027.
