A Jonesboro woman is facing felony charges after police say an argument escalated into a physical confrontation involving a bowl of chili and a shotgun.Officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of West Washington around 9 on the night of Nov. 29 for a reported domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found the victim with chili on his shirt.

According to the affidavit, the man told officers he and Awanna Smith had been arguing when she threw a bowl of chili on him. He said the confrontation continued as Smith allegedly followed him through the home, striking him several times.

Detective Dalynn Johnson reported that the victim claimed Smith then grabbed a shotgun, pointed it at him, and ordered him to leave the house. Court documents state that a witness provided officers with video showing Smith pointing the gun at the man.

On Monday, Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Smith with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony.

Smith was released on a $10,000 cash-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 23.
