Several north-central Arkansas teams earned recognition in this week’s Arkansas Sports Media boys’ high school basketball poll, with Mountain Home, Bergman, Izard County, Jasper and Viola all appearing either in the rankings or receiving votes.

Mountain Home leads the Twin Lakes area in Class 5A, coming in at No. 4 this week with a 5-2 record. The Bombers are off to one of their strongest starts in recent years and also picked up six votes in the overall statewide poll.

In Class 3A, Bergman continues to solidify itself as one of the state’s top small-school programs. The Panthers are ranked No. 2 at 13-2, trailing only unbeaten Greenland. Melbourne and Mountain View also appear in the top five.

Izard County returns to the Class 2A rankings this week, sitting at No. 5 with a 3-2 mark and collecting one first-place vote. Sloan-Hendrix holds the top spot in the classification, followed by Riverside, Barton and Quitman.

Jasper continues to make noise in Class 1A, ranked No. 3 at 10-6. The Pirates remain positioned behind Earle and West Side Greers Ferry. Viola also earned recognition this week, picking up two votes in Class 1A after a solid early-season campaign.

While teams such as Calico Rock, Flippin, Yellville-Summit, Norfork, Cotter and Harrison did not appear in this week’s poll, several have posted competitive early records and continue working through nonconference schedules before league play begins.
