Thousands of cases of salad dressing have been recalled after foreign material was found in the product, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA says California-based Ventura Foods initiated the recall on Nov. 11. The agency classified the action as a Class II recall on Dec. 4, meaning use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences.

More than 3,500 cases of salad dressing are affected, including Hidden Valley Ranch. The FDA report states the recall was issued after “black plastic planting material” was discovered in the granulated onion used in the dressing.

The recalled products were distributed to retailers nationwide.

Consumers who have purchased the affected salad dressings are advised not to use them. The FDA has not reported any illnesses or injuries connected to the recalled products.

Additional details, including product codes and lot information, are available through the FDA.
