A new antique toy display is now on view at the Donald W. Reynolds Library serving Baxter County, offering visitors a nostalgic look at childhood toys from past generations. The collection belongs to Julie Dekker, who loaned the toys for the exhibit. Dekker worked with library staff, with assistance from her husband, to organize the display. Library staff also created signage designed to spark memories and conversation among viewers. The display showcases a wide range of toys and games from multiple decades, spanning from the 1920s through the 1970s. Familiar favorites such as yo-yos, a Slinky, tin tea cups, Mr. Machine, Buzzy Bee, Tinker Toys, Tiny Stories, and even a small pinball game highlight how play has evolved over time. The collection also includes classic games like Lotto, Tiddlywinks, Pick Up Sticks, and Old Maid. Adding a regional touch of nostalgia is a Garfield Goose figure, a character well known to Chicago-area children through television programs that aired from the 1950s through the 1970s.

Andrea Belt, marketing coordinator for the library, shared an interaction she recently observed at the toy display.

In addition to the antique toy display, visitors can also view a collection of donated Christmas ornaments located across from the donor wall, just inside the library before the security gate. Two more display cases are located at the bottom of the stairs, showcasing exhibits designed to appeal to teen and youth visitors.

The antique toy display is located across from Bookworms, to the right upon entering the library, and will remain on display through the holiday season into January.
