State awards nore than $600,000 to Northeast Arkansas Children’s Advocacy groups

Two Northeast Arkansas children’s advocacy groups are set to receive a combined total of more than $600,000 in state grant funding.Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission announced Friday that 40 organizations statewide will receive money through the Community Assistance Grant Program.

The Northeast Arkansas Children’s Advocacy Center in Craighead County will receive $480,000, while the Children’s Advocacy Center of Independence County will receive $131,651. Funds are scheduled to be distributed in January.

According to state officials, the grants are intended to support services for crime victims, reduce poverty, promote self-sufficiency and strengthen communities.

The Arkansas Legislative Council approved $15 million for the program in May. More than 500 applications were submitted, requesting over $319 million in funding.

State officials said the high level of interest highlights the need for community-based assistance programs across Arkansas.
