Arkansas women’s basketball falls to Arkansas State in non-conference finale

Arkansas women’s basketball (11-4) saw its four-game win streak end Sunday as Arkansas State (11-3) took the non-conference finale 81-72 at Bud Walton Arena.The Red Wolves took advantage of Arkansas’ 29 turnovers, scoring 33 points off the miscues. Arkansas State built a big lead in the third quarter and held on, despite an 8-0 run from the Razorbacks late in the quarter and a 12-2 surge in the fourth.

Taleyah Jones led Arkansas with 18 points, while Emily Ware added 15 and Jenna Lawrence posted 12 points and nine rebounds. Five Razorbacks reached double figures, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Red Wolves, who extended their win streak to nine games. Mia Tarver matched Jones with 18 points for Arkansas State.

Arkansas opens SEC play on New Year’s Day against No. 12 Vanderbilt, who finished non-conference action with a 59-point win over Stonehill.
