The officer made contact with Hrnjak who said his license was suspended. While returning to his patrol unit, the officer says Hrnjak kept his eyes on him while reaching into the center console of his vehicle and retrieved a loaded handgun. Hrnjak was ordered to drop the weapon, get out of the vehicle and was detained. Officers secured the 9mm firearm.
Hrnjak told officers there was marijuana in the vehicle, but a previous passenger may have taken it. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a black box with suspected marijuana residue inside, a container with a white crystal substance and a glass smoking pipe used for smoking marijuana with residue inside. A backpack was also found containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms. In the trunk, several insulin syringes were found.
Hrnjak is facing a charge of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty. Other felony charges include aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule I or II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Misdemeanor charges include possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and not having liability insurance.
Hrnjak is being held in the Boone County Jail with bond set at $75,000. He also has a hold placed on him for Yell County.
PREVIOUS ARREST
Hrnjak was previously arrested in Yell County in 2020 on a charge of aggravated assault for attacking a man with a straight edge folding razor during an argument in Dardanelle.
In a plea deal in September of 2020, Hrnjak pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of first degree assault and sentenced to 12 months in the Yell County Jail and ordered to pay $750 in fines, fees and court costs.
Court records filed in August of this year show Hrnjak has not made any payments towards his court ordered payments.
