Arkansas farmers can now apply for a new “Farmers Sales Tax Exemption Card” designed to make it easier to claim certain sales tax exemptions at the point of purchase.

The card, created through Act 621 of 2025, covers items such as animals, chemicals, feed, machinery, seed, tractors, sprayers, irrigation equipment, mechanical pickers, and fertilizer.

Farmers can apply online at atap.arkansas.gov. Approved applicants will receive a card in the mail, which remains active for eight years. The initial cost is $20, with renewals at $10. Each card lists the farm name and address, issue date, and a unique number.

The legislation was sponsored by Rep. DeAnn Vaught, R-District 87, and Sen. Tyler Dees, R-District 35, and signed by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “Farmers shouldn’t have to jump through hoops just to do their jobs,” Sanders said. “This card makes it easier to claim sales tax exemptions right at the point of purchase, cutting paperwork and giving farmers more time where it matters most: in the field and with their families.”

DFA Secretary Jim Hudson said the card is durable and wallet-sized, making it convenient for farmers and retailers alike.
