Fire displaces 20 residents Sunday evening at Keystone Apartments

A fire Sunday evening damaged multiple units at the Keystone Apartments in Mountain Home, displacing about 20 residents.

According to the Mountain Home Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a structure fire at approximately 6:45 at 777 Highway 201 North, involving apartments 25 through 31. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic area of one of the apartment buildings.

The building on fire had 7 apartments with fire and smoke coming from the attic space of 4 of the apartments. Fire crews used engine-mounted deck guns, a ladder truck’s aerial waterway, and two handlines to bring the fire under control. Firefighters remained on scene for about four hours.

Fire officials estimate fire damage at 80 percent, with smoke damage at 90 percent and water damage at 80 percent. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

A total of 28 firefighters responded to the scene, including three engine companies, one ladder company, rescue personnel, tankers, and support vehicles. Clarkridge Fire Department provided assistance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
