Verizon customers across the Twin Lakes area are experiencing a widespread service outage that has knocked out cell service for many users, mirroring problems reported nationwide.

The outage was first reported shortly before noon on Wednesday. Local Verizon customers have reported losing service on both iPhones and Android devices. iPhone users are seeing phones switch to “SOS” mode, while Android devices show a blank or crossed-out network icon.

With Verizon’s network down, customers are unable to make calls or use mobile data. Texting may still work when connected to Wi-Fi through services such as Apple iMessage or Google Messages with RCS, but standard voice calls are not going through.

The outage is also affecting Verizon’s home internet service, according to customer reports.

Verizon confirmed the issue in a statement, saying it is aware of a problem impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers and that engineers are working to resolve it as quickly as possible. The company apologized for the inconvenience.

While outage maps show heavy impacts along the East Coast, reports have also come in from the Midwest and West Coast, including Arkansas. Verizon’s online network status page has also experienced intermittent issues.

Verizon mobile virtual network operators, such as Visible, do not appear to be affected. Some AT&T and T-Mobile users have reported minor issues, though those may be related to difficulties contacting Verizon customers rather than problems with their own networks.
