Boone County man gets 40 years for 2023 murder

A Boone County man has been sentenced to 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections for a 2023 murder. Thirty-one-year-old Donald Steven Calderwood of rural Harrison was convicted of killing 63-year-old Dale Eugene McEntire of Bellfonte in McEntire’s house.Calderwood was charged with felony counts of capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, a misdemeanor count of theft of property and a sentence enhancement for committing a felony with a firearm. As part of a plea deal, Calderwood pled guilty to a reduced charge of first degree murder, aggravated residential burglary and theft of property. The committing a felony with a firearm penalty enhancement was nolle prossed, or dropped. Calderwood was given two 40 year sentences to be served concurrently, or at the same time, and one year in the Boone County Jail. He was given credit for 929 days he has already served since being arrested.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened after a confrontation between Calderwood and McEntire over Calderwood’s driving and his loud vehicle in McEntire’s neighborhood.
