The Crooked Creek Conservation District is offering a $500 scholarship to a local high school student planning to pursue studies in agriculture, environmental science or conservation-related fields.
The scholarship is part of a statewide education program through Arkansas conservation districts, according to district chairman Donald Austin. The local winner will also be eligible to compete for additional scholarships at the area and state levels.
At the state level, the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts awards two scholarships one for $1,000 and another for $500 all based on a student essay.
The contest is open to Marion County sophomores, juniors and seniors with a minimum 2.5 grade point average who plan to follow a conservation-related course of study.
Applications must be submitted by February 6.
Entries should be mailed to the Crooked Creek Conservation District, 302 East Fourth Street, Yellville, AR 72687.
Students seeking more information can contact the district office at 870-449-6356.
