A bank account has been established at First Security Bank in Mountain Home for the recent Keystone Apartments fire victims. The account is called the Keystone Fire Benefit Fund.

A Facebook page has also been set up to coordinate efforts to help these families get back on their feet.

On the evening of January 11 a fire broke out in one of the buildings at Keystone Apartments. The fire left four single parent families homeless.

According to the Mountain Home Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a structure fire at approximately 6:45 at 777 Highway 201 North, involving apartments 25 through 31. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic area of one of the apartment buildings.

The building on fire had 7 apartments with fire and smoke coming from the attic space of 4 of the apartments. Fire crews used engine-mounted deck guns, a ladder truck’s aerial waterway, and two handlines to bring the fire under control. Firefighters remained on scene for about four hours.

Fire officials estimated fire damage at 80 percent, with smoke damage at 90 percent and water damage at 80 percent. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
