The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management says two people have died and nine others were injured following a winter storm that swept through the state last week.
The State Emergency Operations Center confirmed a 40-year-old man died in an ATV accident in Columbia County, east of Magnolia, and a 17-year-old male died in a separate ATV-related incident in Saline County. Injuries were reported in Columbia, Cleburne, Hempstead, and Saline counties.
Thirty counties declared local emergencies ahead of the storm as snow, ice, and freezing temperatures impacted the state. ADEM continues coordinating with county officials, the Arkansas Department of Transportation, Arkansas State Police, and the Department of Health to assess damage, prioritize public safety, and support response efforts.
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture reported that roughly 175 poultry houses were damaged or destroyed. Additional reports include damage to marinas, commercial buildings, and government structures. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and report structural damage to local authorities.
Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
