
Arkansas State nearly erased a double-digit deficit but came up short in a 75-71 loss to Old Dominion on Wednesday night inside First National Bank Arena.Christian Harmon scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Red Wolves (13-9, 5-5 Sun Belt), while TJ Caldwell added 14 and Jalen Hampton finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double in the last five games. Chandler Jackson dished out eight assists, matching a career high.
Arkansas State shot 41.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range, while holding a 42-33 advantage on the glass and outscoring Old Dominion 26-9 in bench points.
The Red Wolves briefly took a 20-19 lead midway through the first half before the Monarchs answered with a 10-2 run to build a seven-point cushion. Arkansas State closed the gap late, but a half-court buzzer-beater by Old Dominion sent the Red Wolves into halftime trailing 38-33.
Old Dominion pushed the lead to double digits early in the second half before Arkansas State mounted its comeback. A series of baskets by Jackson and Joey Chammaa trimmed the margin, and a three-pointer by Joseph Hayman tied the game at 61-61 with just over five minutes remaining.
Harmon brought the Red Wolves within two in the final minutes, but Old Dominion sealed the game at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the four-point victory.
Arkansas State will look to rebound Saturday when it hosts Marshall at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the EAB Red Wolves Sports Network.
