Lockheed Martin broke ground this week on a new facility in Camden that will help expand missile production as part of a multibillion-dollar nationwide investment.
The company’s Munitions Acceleration Center at Highland Industrial Park will train workers to build advanced air defense and surface-to-surface missiles, including the PAC-3 interceptor, which is produced only in Camden.
CEO Jim Taiclet said the expansion is part of a plan to add or improve more than 20 facilities across several states over the next three years.
Lockheed officials said the center will strengthen the local workforce pipeline while helping meet growing global demand for missile systems such as GMLRS, THAAD and the PAC-3 MSE interceptor used with the Patriot system.
Taiclet said recent agreements will increase annual production of the PAC-3 MSE from 600 to 2,000 units.
U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman and Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael Duffey attended the ceremony, highlighting the federal government’s support for expanding domestic defense manufacturing.
The project further establishes Camden as a key hub in the nation’s missile and munitions production network.
