Two inmates at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office detention center are facing charges following a fight inside a housing pod last Thursday afternoon.
According to an incident report, jail staff were preparing to serve the evening meal in A-Pod around 4:15 when an officer noticed inmate Tomas Sedillo attempting to conceal an injury by wrapping a towel around his forehead. Blood was observed running down Sedillo’s face.
Security footage reviewed by jail staff showed Sedillo and another inmate, Joseph Kight, engaged in a physical altercation about a minute before chow call. Both inmates later told officers the fight stemmed from a verbal argument over a clogged toilet, which escalated after Kight reportedly called Sedillo a derogatory name.
Video footage indicated the fight appeared mutual, and officers were unable to determine who initiated the altercation.
Sedillo sustained a cut above his left eye and was transported to Baxter Health, where he received five stitches. Kight did not appear to have any injuries.
Both inmates have been charged with third-degree assault and impairing the operation of a vital public facility.
