Arkansas poured in its best offensive showing of SEC play Thursday night, but late misses proved costly as Missouri slipped past the Razorbacks 87-82 in a tight rematch at Bud Walton Arena. The Hogs (11-13, 0-9 SEC) drilled 14 three-pointers and put up 82 points, yet went just 1-of-9 from the field over the final four minutes, including five missed layups, as the Tigers (16-9, 4-6 SEC) closed it out at the line.Taleyah Jones led the charge for Arkansas with 24 points, knocking down five threes and repeatedly answering Missouri runs. Izzy Higginbottom Mayberry added a season-high 19 points with five triples of her own, while Emily Robinson continued her steady all-around play with 17 points and five assists. Arkansas matched Missouri shot for shot most of the night, holding a 22-19 edge after one quarter and staying within a possession deep into the fourth. The Hogs hit double-digit threes for the first time in SEC play, but attempted just eight free throws compared to Missouri’s 18.
Missouri used a barrage of third-quarter threes to create separation, then shifted inside late, scoring in the paint while going nearly the entire fourth quarter without a three-point attempt. Arkansas cut the deficit to one multiple times down the stretch, including after Mayberry’s fifth three and Jones’ late triple that made it 85-82 with 21 seconds left, but couldn’t convert on clean looks in the closing seconds. Saylor Deas anchored the glass with 13 rebounds and added seven assists as the Razorbacks now turn their focus to a Sunday road trip to Florida.
