As Marion County voters prepare for the upcoming 2026 Preferential Primary, they’ll decide proposed taxes to fund a new community center, elect a county treasurer and choose new representation for Quorum Court District 9.
Much discussion has been had in the months preceding the coming vote for the proposed community center and site along Highway 14 on the south side of Yellville. Voters will be set with two questions to fund the center.
Question one on the ballot will be for a 0.25 percent Sales and Use Tax to serve as a permanent maintenance tax for the center should it be built. The ballot reads,”(a) to acquire, construct, improve, expand, equip, furnish, operate and maintain park and recreational facilities, including particularly, a new community center and any facilities or improvements related thereto or in support thereof, (b) to pay and secure the repayment of bonds approved by the voters and issued by the
County from time to time to finance capital improvements, and (c) for general purposes of County government. The levy of the tax is not dependent on any bonds being approved or issued.”
Question two is a temporary 0.5 percent tax Sales and Use tax for Park and Recreational Bonds to fund the building of the proposed facility at a maximum cost of $16.5 million. The tax would be used to, “finance all or a portion of the costs of acquiring, constructing, equipping and furnishing new park and recreational facilities, including particularly, without limitation, a new community center with swimming facilities, a multipurpose gymnasium, a walking track, a banquet hall and meeting rooms and any necessary land acquisitions, furnishings, equipment and any utility, road, parking, drainage,
signage, and lighting improvements related thereto or in support thereof.”
In county races Republicans Cyndi Mueller and Amber Knowles are running for the position of Marion County Treasurer.
The District 9 seat which covers the south western corner of the county is also to be decided for the Marion County Quorum Court. Voters will decide between Republican candidate John Rosenthal and Republican candidate Miles Wellein.
