If you or someone you know has had the flu lately, you’re not alone. Flu numbers in the Twin Lakes Area and around the state of Arkansas are surging once again according to local and state officials.
The latest report from the Arkansas Department of Health shows the flu level is very high in the state for the week ending Jan. 31. There are 13 levels on the chart and the latest report was at number 11. No average school absenteeism numbers were available due to school closures for weather.
The previous week, the flu level was in the high range, or eight out of 13.
Locally, Baxter Health in Mountain Home has seen an uptick in flu cases lately according to infection preventionist Jennifer Hawkins.

Hawkins says there have been six hospitalizations since Feb. 1, all from Influenza A. Those hospitalized have ranged from under the age of two to 85-years-old.
She says most of the cases they are seeing come on fast.

Hawkins says there have been two deaths reported locally this flu season. Statewide, 37 deaths have been reported from the flu.
