Melbourne sweeps Bergman; Flippin, Salem, Viola earn wins

Area teams were in action Tuesday night with senior girls and boys games across north central Arkansas, highlighted by a sweep for Melbourne and key wins for several conference contenders.

Melbourne earned a sweep over Bergman. The Lady Bearkatz defeated Bergman 68-58, and the Melbourne boys followed with a 76-62 victory over the Panthers.

At Bergman, the girls fell 68-58 and the Panthers dropped the boys contest 76-62.

Salem picked up a 62-55 win over Heber Springs in girls action.

Viola secured wins on both sides. The Lady Longhorns rolled past Shirley 58-26, and the Viola boys defeated Shirley 67-52.

Flippin’s boys posted a 66-35 win over Marshall.

Cotter fell to Jasper 49-39 in the girls game.

Valley Springs split its games with Rose Bud. The Lady Tigers were edged 55-51, while the Valley Springs boys responded with a 62-52 victory.

Calico Rock dropped a 47-42 decision to Maynard in the girls contest.

Lead Hill split with Ozark Mountain. The Lady Tigers fell 59-54, but the Lead Hill boys slipped past Ozark Mountain 59-57 in a close finish. Noah Royce lead the Tigers with 18 points, Brett Arnold added 15, Coda Lemon pitched in 10, and Hunter Rogers had 9 points and 10 rebounds.

At Norfork, the girls fell to Izard County 60-50. The Lady Cougars (12-12) were led by Hadleigh Herron with 18 points and Kallie Skidmore added 17. On the boys side, Norfork was defeated by Izard County 85-55. The Cougars (14-11) were led by Kyler Brashear with 23 points and Benaiah Spray with 22 points. Kade Yancey also added 18 points for the Cougars.

At Yellville-Summit, the Lady Panthers fell to Kingston 45-33.

Teams continue regular-season play later this week as conference races tighten heading toward postseason tournaments.
