The state’s first college of veterinary medicine remains on track to open this fall at Arkansas State University, with accreditation and construction progressing as planned, university officials told the ASU System Board of Trustees on Friday.
Arkansas State University Chancellor Todd Shields said a second site visit in January by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education accrediting team went “extremely well,” and the university has submitted follow-up materials. An accreditation decision is expected in June.
If approved, the college plans to enroll its first class in fall 2026. Shields said 17 faculty members have been hired, and the application process is prepared to launch upon approval. Construction of the 56,000-square-foot veterinary school building and two educational barns on the Arkansas State University campus in Jonesboro is on schedule for completion this summer.
