Arkansas State completed a season-opening series sweep of Stony Brook with a 12-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Slayton Family Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
The Red Wolves (3-0) broke the game open with three home runs in the seventh inning to secure the eight-inning win over the Seawolves (0-3).
Dylan Farley earned the win in his Arkansas State debut, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings while striking out seven.
A-State set the tone early, sending its first six batters aboard in a six-run first inning fueled by singles, walks, hit batters, a wild pitch and an infield error. The Red Wolves added a run on a sacrifice fly in the second to take a 7-0 lead.
Stony Brook cut into the deficit with runs in the third and fourth, including a solo home run, but Arkansas State answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Patrick Engskov and a pinch-hit RBI single from Aidan Houseworth.
The Seawolves scored again in the sixth before the Red Wolves erupted in the seventh. Houseworth and Derek Martinez hit back-to-back homers to start the inning, and Ashton Quiller added a third long ball to push the lead to 12-3.
Stony Brook scored twice in the eighth, but the game ended due to a drop-dead time before the ninth inning.
Nicholas Rizzo took the loss for Stony Brook.
