The National Weather Service in Little Rock has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of north central Arkansas, including areas near Mountain Home. The warning is in effect from 9 until 7 Thursday for Marion, Baxter, Boone, Newton and Searcy counties including higher and lower elevation areas.

Forecasters say south to southwest winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 35 miles per hour. Relative humidity levels are forecast to drop into the 20 percent range.

Officials say any fires that develop could spread rapidly under these conditions. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will occur shortly. The combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
