Hello, I am Danny Woods and I ask for your vote on March 3rd for Justice of the Peace for District 11.

I am running for this position because I have seen the actions of the Judge and Quorum Court that have been wrong for the county:  Litty has given away rental income while dissolving a board that wouldn’t “agree” with the Judge on the issue; given tax dollars to private business in the name of Economic Development; Litty refuses to appropriately test the well and quarry pond to protect our county’s water supply; and now wants to spend $4 million of our tax dollars on a voting center that will be used on average of 1.5 times per year.  This is not transparency, this is not good stewardship of tax dollars and this is not what the people want.

I am not meaning to sound like a radical, as Judge Litty would like to label me.  I simply am fed up with the lack of transparency and true conservatism.  Have you seen ANY discussion in Quorum Court meetings?  Well, I haven’t.  When are these items discussed?  I also believe there are some FOIA violations in regard to meetings and communications.

The Quorum Court doesn’t understand what their role is in government.  One JP wrote in a Facebook post, “if you are on a board and you can’t ‘get along with the Judge, you should resign….’”.  Well, that JP didn’t attend any of the meetings he referred to, didn’t review the information that was given him on the issue, and only allowed the Judge to tell him how to vote.  There is a difference in “getting along” and disagreeing with the Judge.  A very clear pattern has been set by Judge Litty that if you ask questions, or disagree, you will be blackballed and gotten rid of.  There is a known “you are with me or against me” attitude that is displayed by the Judge.  This is NOT how our government was designed.  We are not to be ruled, but represented.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t condone fighting or arguing, but a discussion of both sides and a discussion of a solution IS NOT HAPPENING at the moment.  I want to help get us back to what the job of being a JP is – oversight – a voice to the people to prevent political influence by a Judge with no oversight.

Judge Litty has said many things that simply aren’t true.  The roads have been neglected for 3 years – not in “good shape”, as he says.  The airport is becoming a playground for he and his political contributors, as he is freely writing leases for little to no rent without any oversight.  Employee morale is low, as he has no experience supervising employees, he simply micromanages them and doesn’t allow any input on issues.

Why would ANY Judge NOT want to test our water after members of the community suddenly get sick when they have lived in the same home for 30 years?  Lack of concern for others is obvious.  We all live here and water quality affects us all.

And finally, how is spending $4 million on a voting center a common-sense approach to stewardship of our county dollars?  I don’t believe that we should spend $4 million dollars on a building that will house an election coordinator and be used an average of 1.5 times per year for voting.  Litty says he will move the Assessor and Collector’s office in that space as well.  This is also not necessary, as the space they have is adequate, as records are all now electronic, resulting in no need for storage space.  Litty cites parking as an issue.  It could simply be solved by adding a few designated signs in front of these offices for users that have issues with parking and walking.  The walk into the assessor from around the corner has not been a problem in the past 100 years, why now?

A vote for Danny Woods would ensure your voice on the Quorum Court.  I will research issues, answer phone calls and be accountable to voters.  I will do my best to work with whomever becomes our next Judge to find the best solutions for our county.  I again, humbly ask for your vote on March 3rd for Danny Woods, JP District 11.
