The Baxter County Democratic Party is offering a new scholarship opportunity for graduating high school seniors with an interest in public service.

The inaugural “Future Leaders Scholarship” will award $500 for the 2026 academic year to a Baxter County senior planning to pursue a career in politics, political science, public policy, or a related field.

“We believe in investing in the future of our community, and that starts with supporting our bright, motivated young people,” said Micha Johnson, scholarship committee chair.

To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and an ACT score of at least 20. Students will need to submit a completed application, an unofficial high school transcript, and a one-to-two page essay explaining their interest in pursuing a career in politics or political science.

All materials should be emailed to baxtercountydemcommittee@gmail.com. Students can also reach out to their high school counselor’s office for an application form. The deadline is April 1st, 2026.
