The Baxter County Genealogical and Historical Society is kicking off 2026 with a busy agenda, including an upcoming public meeting, a new website launch, and long-awaited repairs to one of Mountain Home’s oldest structures.

The society’s first meeting of the year postponed from January due to weather will be held Tuesday at 6:00 at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County. The program will feature speaker Cindy Wood Young. KTLO News spoke with Historical Society Member, Sonny Sharp who gives the details.

Young is a Flippin native who spent much of her career with Capital Mercury Shirt Corporation, working to ensure social compliance standards were met at overseas manufacturing facilities across Vietnam, Central America, and South America. Young has also written for the Mountain Echo newspaper and authored a memoir titled “Growing Up Flippin: Laughing Times of a Small Town Arkansas Girl.”

On the digital front, the society has brought on new board member Marianne Edge as webmaster for an upgraded version of their site at baxterountyhistory.org. The redesigned site is expected to launch in early April and will feature local history, historic property spotlights, genealogy research requests, links to recorded meeting programs on YouTube, an online gift shop, and a spotlight on the society’s museum at 300 Bomber Boulevard. The museum is open free of charge Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment.

Sharp also shared that renovation work on the Casey House described as the oldest and most historic structure in Mountain Home is set to begin March 2nd, with work focusing on the roof and additional repairs. A site visit with the contractor and county officials took place earlier this month, and Sharp says the county has been supportive in funding the effort.

The society has also lowered its individual membership dues from $40 to $25 per year. Individual sponsorships are available for $100 annually and business sponsorships for $150. Sponsors will continue to receive printed quarterly newsletters.

No membership is required to attend.
