The Mountain Home High School NJROTC has been selected to provide color guard for the State of Arkansas at America’s National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The once in a lifetime opportunity will include a 4 day trip to the capital where cadets will march the parade on the 4th of July, take in multiple educational opportunities and attend the National Symphony concert on the Capital Lawn. Battallion Commanding Officer Dylan Prins says the cadets from Mountain Home were the only group selected from Arkansas to represent the state.

The students will get to tour historic landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. They will visit the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, explore the Smithsonian, including the National Air and Space Museum and tour the National Archives, home of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
Prins commented on the feelings he and the other cadets share knowing they have the opportunity to represent their local community at a historic national event.

Preceding the trip, a fundraising night will be held on March 3 at the Sheid on the campus of Arkansas State University Mountain Home. Along with a dinner and silent auction Tim Nichols, President of the NJROTC Booster Club, says attendees will see special performances by the cadets.

Cadets will continue with their rigourous training schedule as they prepare with purpose for the bus to pull out of Mountain Home on July 2nd for their chance to represent their city, state and country in the nation’s largest celebration of 250 years of independence.
