
The Medical Coding and Billing Instructor teaches online courses for the Professional Medical Coder Technical Certificate and Certificate of Proficiency plans. This position prepares students for the AAPC CPC-Certified Professional Coder exam.
COURSES TAUGHT:
Medical Coding I (3 credit hours) & Medical Coding II (4 credit hours) – Hybrid format with weekly live Teams classes, using AAPC PMCC curriculum; Healthcare Billing, Compliance, and Reimbursement (3 credit hours) – Online only
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver live instruction for Medical Coding I & II using AAPC PMCC; Develop and deliver engaging online lessons for Healthcare Billing, Compliance, and Reimbursement; Assess student learning and provide feedback; Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and progress; Complete course outcomes assessment; Foster a supportive online learning environment; Collaborate with faculty to ensure program quality and student success
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Experience with various instructional delivery modes; Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with diverse faculty, staff, and students; Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
General Days/Hours: M-F. To support compliance with ASU System employment guidelines, adjunct faculty appointments are limited to a maximum of nine (9) total credit hours per academic semester across all ASU System institutions combined.
QUALIFICATIONS Current CPC (AAPC) certification
Current AAPC-Approved Instructor certification; In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding conventions; Experience in healthcare billing for professional services; Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; Ability to teach effectively in an online format
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree or higher in a related field; Collegiate-level teaching experience
