A speed limit change has gone into effect for a portion of Highway 62/412 in the City Cotter in an effort to reduce speeds and improve safety.

The change made by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) went into effect on Monday for the portion of the highway from Denton Ferry Road to the Cotter City limits. The stretch that was 50 miles per hour has been reduced to 45 mph.

Cotter Mayor Mac Caradine told KTLO News that recent deadly accidents involving pedestrians had prompted him to reach out to a contact at ARDOT in late 2025 to see if a change could be made to lower the speed. “The safety of our citizens and those that attend school is my primary concern,” the Mayor stated.
