Regional tournament roundup: Lead Hill, Bergman advance; Flippin, Cave City eliminated

Regional tournament play got underway Wednesday, with several area teams seeing their seasons come to an end while others punched their tickets to the next round.

In the 1A-1 Regional at Lead Hill, the host Tigers dominated St. Paul 73-38 to advance. Calico Rock will take on Crowley’s Ridge Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

In the 3A-2 Boys Regional at Manila, Flippin’s season came to a close in a tight 65-61 loss to Rivercrest. Cave City also saw its postseason run end, falling to top-seeded Osceola 52-43.

On the 3A-2 girls side, top-seeded Bergman made a statement with a dominant 71-21 victory over Newport, winning by 50 points. Valley Springs’ season ended with a 59-46 loss to Manila.

In the 2A-2 girls tournament at Sloan-Hendrix, Marshall’s run came to an end with a 62-35 loss to Riverside.

Thursday’s action includes Calico Rock facing Crowley’s Ridge at 8:30 in the 1A-1 Regional, while the 3A-2 boys bracket features Melbourne against Newport at 5:30 and Bergman taking on Manila at 8:30. On the 3A-2 girls side, Melbourne faces Walnut Ridge at 4 and Mountain View takes on Rivercrest at 7. In the 1A-2 girls bracket, Izard County faces Buffalo Island Central at 4, with Izard County’s boys taking on Bay at 8:30.
