LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas State Police is investigating an incident in which a trooper performed a tactical vehicle intervention after a driver failed to stop during an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 630 in downtown Little Rock.
According to a news release from the Arkansas State Police, the incident occurred Friday, Feb. 20, at approximately 8:28 a.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on I-630. Authorities said the vehicle did not pull over, prompting the trooper to conduct a tactical vehicle intervention, commonly known as a TVI.
Police later determined the driver was transporting a child experiencing a medical emergency to a nearby hospital. The trooper was not aware of the medical situation at the time of the stop.
State police said the trooper immediately requested an ambulance after learning of the emergency, and the child was transported to a hospital for treatment. Officials reported no injuries resulting from the incident.
The Arkansas State Police Office of Professional Standards Division has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
“Knowing all that we do now, we agree with the prosecutor’s decision to drop all charges against the driver,” ASP Director Col. Mike Hagar said. “This incident underscores the importance of communication when it’s necessary to transport someone having a medical emergency in a private vehicle, which occurs with regularity across Arkansas.”
