The Arkansas State University-Mountain Home Trailblazers suffered losses Friday, dropping both games of a road doubleheader to Allen Community College in Iola, Kansas, by scores of 3-2 and 7-1. The setbacks move ASUMH to 1-12 overall as the teams prepare for a second doubleheader Saturday.
Game one featured a strong pitching performance from Trailblazer starter Keaton Matlick, who held Allen scoreless through five innings while allowing three hits and striking out six. The Red Devils broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning with a three-run rally that proved to be the difference.
ASUMH answered with two runs but was unable to complete the comeback. Christian Loera and Jett Hannaford each drove in a run, while Hannaford and Chase Plowman collected two hits apiece. The Trailblazers were aggressive on the basepaths with three stolen bases and committed no errors defensively, with Gavin Stanger recording six defensive plays. Lance Lundine was charged with the loss in relief.
In game two, Allen Community College took an early lead in the first inning and gradually extended the advantage behind a 13-hit offensive effort in a 7-1 victory.
Ty Tilton took the loss after pitching 5 innings for ASUMH. Broc Mattox drove in the Trailblazers’ lone run, finishing 1-for-4 at the plate, while JD Hertzog, Weston Pschier and Gabe Flores each added a hit. ASUMH turned two double plays defensively.
The Trailblazers will look to bounce back Saturday as they remain in Iola for another doubleheader against Allen Community College.
