In a statement released Saturday evening the Arkansas Department of Agriculture stated that forestry crews had responded to 42 wildfires statewide with the greatest concentration being in North Central and Northeast Arkansas.

A map provided by the agency showed a concentration of fires in Baxter, Marion, Fulton and Stone Counties south of the Highway 62/412 corridor. Some of the fires were reported to be wildfires and some being prescribed burns.

A prescribed burn was reported by KTLO News on Saturday morning by the U.S. Forest Service within the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest west of Calico Rock. That operation was planned to treat approximately 2,305 acres.

According to the National Weather Service rain is forecasted through the coming week which should improve the very dry conditions. The statement by the Department of Agriculture asked that residents stay alert and follow local burn bans.

Currently Baxter, Marion and Stone Counties are not under a burn ban but a ban on burning remains for Fulton County. A map from the Arkansas Forestry Service shows North Central Arkansas Wildfire Danger remains High into Sunday morning.
