
The Mizzou men’s basketball team dominated on the road, cruising past Mississippi State 88-64 Saturday for its largest SEC win of the season. The victory improves the Tigers to 20-9 overall and 10-6 in league play, while the Bulldogs fall to 13-16 and 5-11 in the SEC.
Five Tigers scored in double figures, led by senior Mark Mitchell with 17 points and four rebounds. Shawn Phillips Jr. added a career-high 16 points in an SEC game, along with four boards and two blocks. Anthony Robinson II contributed 13 points, while Trent Pierce and T.O. Barrett each scored 10. Graduate Jayden Stone just missed a double-double with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Mizzou jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back. Phillips fueled an 8-0 stretch to give the Tigers a 20-point advantage, and Mizzou led 54-23 at the half. The lead grew as high as 36 in the second half, with Mississippi State unable to get closer than 24.
Mizzou shot 50.8% from the field, including 42.1% from three, while controlling points off turnovers (27-10) and second-chance points (14-5). Mississippi State made 49.1% of field goals but struggled from deep (5-of-19) and the free-throw line (7-of-20).
The Tigers will continue their road swing at Oklahoma on Tuesday at 6 on SEC Network.
