ASUMH drops two high-scoring games at Allen Community College

ASU-Mountain Home baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday at Allen Community College, falling 18-17 in a back-and-forth opener before losing 17-1 in the second game.In the first contest, ASUMH battled throughout a wild offensive game that featured multiple lead changes. JD Hertzog drove in five runs on two hits, including a three-run home run in the second inning.

ASUMH jumped out early with four runs in the first inning on contributions from Christian Loera, Broc Mattox, Brayden Feather and Ryder McClain. Allen answered quickly and used a nine-run second inning to surge ahead 11-7.

The teams continued trading blows. ASUMH scored five runs in the third to reclaim the lead, highlighted by a two-run double from Chase Plowman. Allen responded with a three-run homer in the bottom half to go back in front.

ASUMH tied the game in the fifth and briefly took the lead again in the sixth on an RBI double by Loera and a two-run single from Hertzog. Allen, however, plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the 18-17 victory.

Loera led ASUMH with three hits, while Mattox, Feather and Jett Hannaford also had multiple hits. The team finished with 15 hits in the game.

The second game was controlled by Allen from the start. The Red Devils scored three runs in the first inning and added three more in the second on a pair of home runs to build a 6-0 advantage.

Allen continued to add on, including a six-run sixth inning fueled by hits, errors and a balk, to extend the lead to 17-1.

Ryder McClain recorded two hits for ASUMH, while Rylan Jones drove in the team’s lone run. Blayne Cribb took the loss after allowing eight runs, five earned, over 3 2/3 innings.

Allen finished with 13 hits in the nightcap and committed no errors defensively.

ASUMH will return to action Saturday on the road at Carl Albert State College.
