Smith wins second term as Fulton County sheriff, Everett elected judge

Fulton County voters returned incumbent Sheriff Jacob “Jake” Smith to office and elected Heath Everett as county judge in Tuesday’s Republican primary.

Smith won a second term as sheriff with 1,460 votes (66.15%), defeating Wendell A. Lane, who received 511 votes (23.15%), and Michael A. Eaton, who finished with 236 votes (10.69%). A total of 2,207 votes were cast in the race.

In the race for Fulton County Judge, Everett defeated Jeremy Langston with 1,365 votes (62.79%) to 809 votes (37.21%). A total of 2,174 votes were cast in the race.

In other county races, Angela Goodman defeated incumbent Marjorie Rogers for Justice of the Peace in District 6, receiving 120 votes (60%) to Rogers’ 80 votes (40%).

Incumbent Cari A. Long was reelected county assessor with 1,679 votes (78.42%), defeating Jerry L. Barnes, who received 462 votes (21.58%).

The race for county coroner was closely contested, with Tom Doty receiving 1,086 votes (50.51%) and Michael Thomas Rimbey receiving 1,064 votes (49.49%).

For Constable of Township One, incumbent Clay Divelbiss won with 1,068 votes (51.30%), followed by James (Jim) A. Griffin with 721 votes (34.63%) and Vernon Short with 293 votes (14.07%).

In school board elections, Joe Flynn won Mammoth Spring School Board Position 4 with 245 votes (67.49%), defeating Christopher Moore, who received 118 votes (32.51%).

For Viola School Board Position 1, Derek Winter received 364 votes (63.53%), defeating Craig Batterton, who received 209 votes (36.47%).

In the Highland School Board Position 2 race, Conway Spurlock received 207 votes (57.98%) to defeat Jason Rhodes, who received 150 votes (42.02%).

Voters in Mammoth Spring also approved a proposal to annex land along U.S. Highway 63 South, with 88 votes (77.88%) in favor and 25 votes (22.12%) against.
