
Ryan Ashford earned his first career victory as Arkansas State defeated Louisiana Tech 10-2 Tuesday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The Red Wolves improved to 10-3 on the season while Louisiana Tech fell to 8-5.
Arkansas State jumped out early when Ashton Quiller was hit by a pitch and later scored on a double to left field by Lane Walton. Patrick Engskov followed with an RBI double to give the Red Wolves a 2-0 lead before Louisiana Tech answered with a run in the bottom of the first.
Making his first career start, sophomore Ryan Ashford allowed two hits in the opening inning but settled in afterward, giving up only two walks over the next four innings while striking out four to earn the win.
Arkansas State added to its lead in the fourth inning when Evan Griffis singled ahead of a two-run home run by Aidan Houseworth, pushing the Red Wolves’ advantage to 4-1.
The score remained unchanged until the eighth inning when A-State broke the game open. Kaden Amundson was hit by a pitch to start the frame, Quiller singled, and Walton delivered another double to drive in a run. A walk and consecutive hit-by-pitches helped bring in two more runs.
Louisiana Tech scored once in the bottom of the eighth, but Arkansas State answered in the ninth. Amundson and Quiller reached base ahead of Engskov’s two-run homer, sealing the 10-2 victory.
Kade Parker took the loss for Louisiana Tech.
Arkansas State will continue the midweek series against Louisiana Tech Wednesday at 6.
