Guides for Cranor’s and Gaston’s are staying busy catching beautiful trout

Resorts and guides on the White River are reporting a busy season despite being under strict trout limit regulations set by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) for the past six months following a die off at the the Norfork Hatchery.

Originally set as catch and release only, AGFC recently made a decision stating anglers can now keep two fish. Donald Cranor, owner of Cranor’s White River Lodge and Cranor’s Guide Service, says he’s been busy and the regulations have not affected business.

Cranor does not agree with rumors that it could take years for the river to recover after 90 percent of the trout and all of the trout eggs at the Norfork hatchery died last October.

AGFC is continuing to work to restore their stock of trout and monitor regulations and their effects on the river. In the meantime, confidence remains high that anglers and their families will continue making their annual pilgrimages to one of the world’s top fishing destinations and in turn contributing to the economy of the Twin Lakes area.
