Proposed updates to the City of Mountain Home’s zoning regulations will headline Thursday night’s City Council meeting scheduled for 5 at City Hall.

The ordinance would revise the city’s zoning code by splitting the current C-2 commercial zoning designation into several new subcategories, including light, medium and heavy-use commercial zoning. City officials say the change is designed to better classify commercial development based on factors such as traffic, noise and lighting impacts, while helping residents better understand what types of businesses may be developed near their property.

City leaders say the current C-2 designation functions as a broad catch-all for many types of commercial development. The proposed revisions would create more specific classifications to help guide where certain types of commercial projects may be located.

Officials say the proposed changes would not immediately alter any existing C-2 zoning designations. Properties would only be assigned one of the new classifications when a change of use occurs, such as when a building is renovated or repurposed for a different type of business.

The council is expected to hold the first reading of the ordinance Thursday, with additional readings planned for March 19 and possible adoption scheduled for April 2.

In other business, the council will consider a resolution to waive competitive bidding for the purchase of a 2026 Hino water tanker truck for the city’s street department at a cost of $119,500.

Council members will also consider a resolution to waive bidding on the sale of a 2011 Vactor truck and approve selling the vehicle to Arlynd Mallett Excavation of Mountain Home for $55,000.

Other agenda items include a resolution to reappoint Noah Strout to the Mountain Home Advertising and Promotion Commission and a quarterly presentation from the North Central Arkansas Economic Alliance.
