The Izard County STEM School has been awarded a $30,000 Joint Use Agreement grant to support improvements to outdoor facilities on its elementary campus.

School officials say the project will be a partnership with the City of Franklin to rehabilitate a walking trail and pond. Once completed, the amenities will be open to the public during designated hours.

According to the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, the competitive grant program is designed to help schools partner with local governments and organizations to share indoor or outdoor spaces that serve both students and the broader community.

Grant writers recognized for the project include Courtney Selph, Franklin Mayor Louise Williams and Eve Hatman.
