A Mountain Home man is facing felony charges following a reported stabbing early Sunday morning.

According to a report from the Mountain Home Police Department, officers were dispatched to Baxter Health Hospital around 2:14. March 1 after receiving a report of a stabbing victim.

The victim, a 56-year-old Mountain Home man, was brought to the hospital by a neighbor after sending a message saying he had been stabbed.

Investigators say the victim later identified 51-year-old Andrew Joseph Melvin of Mountain Home as the person who stabbed him. The victim told officers Melvin entered the residence on South Church Street, and during a confrontation the victim raised his arm to block him and was stabbed.

Police went to Melvin’s residence on Spring Street, where he was detained and taken into custody.

Melvin is charged with aggravated residential burglary, a Class Y felony, and second-degree battery, a Class D felony. A Class Y felony is the most serious classification of crime in Arkansas not punishable by death.

Evidence collected in the investigation included a knife with a wooden handle believed to contain blood, along with DNA and blood samples from the scene.

Melvin is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center, with bond set at $50,000.
