
The No. 1 seed University of Central Arkansas Bears will open play in the ASUN Championship Tournament Friday morning when they take on No. 8 seed Bellarmine in Jacksonville, Florida.Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Central Arkansas enters the tournament with a 20-11 overall record and a 15-3 mark in conference play, earning the programs first-ever NCAA Division I regular season conference championship.
The Bears and Knights split their two regular-season meetings. Bellarmine claimed an overtime win in Louisville, while Central Arkansas responded with an eight-point victory in Conway after trailing by one at halftime.
In those matchups, Javion Guy-King scored a combined 30 points, including a three-pointer at the end of regulation in Louisville that forced overtime. Ty Robinson totaled 39 points in the two games, while Camren Hunter added 38.
Central Arkansas clinched the regular-season title in its final game, defeating Queens 84-79 on Senior Day. The Bears lone senior, Camren Hunter, led the way with 30 points, going 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. Guy-King added 18 points, while Robinson finished with 12.
Hunter was recently named ASUN Player of the Year and earned unanimous First-Team All-ASUN honors. Robinson was selected to the All-ASUN Second Team, All-Freshman Team, and ASUN All-Academic Team.
With a win Friday, the Bears would advance to the ASUN semifinal at 4 p.m. Saturday, facing the winner of the No. 4 Lipscomb vs. No. 5 FGCU matchup. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
