Dylan Edwards, Chief Ranger for Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was recently recognized with the Mobie Price Natural Resources Specialist of the Year Award.
Edwards received the honor during Ranger Training Week held in late February. The award recognizes excellence in the Corps’ Natural Resources Program and honors the legacy of Mobie Price.
According to a release on social media by the Corps, Edwards earned the award after serving as the sole chief ranger during a critical staffing shortage while continuing to support recreation, shoreline, wildlife and forestry programs at the Twin Lakes. He also assists with district wide ranger training and mentoring younger staff.
Edwards said the award reflects the work of the entire ranger team.
“It’s an honor, but it really reflects the entire ranger team at Norfork and Bull Shoals,” Edwards tells KTLO News. “Rangers do far more than visitor assistance. We help keep the infrastructure that protects our communities working the way it’s designed to.”
Edwards began working for the Corps in 2007 as a summer ranger at Beaver Lake while attending the University of Arkansas before moving back to Mountain Home and working for the Corps locally since 2014.
“This community raised me, and it’s been a privilege to give back,” Edwards said.
He added that protecting the lakes and the people who rely on them continues to drive his work.
“Our job is to keep people safe, protect the infrastructure that protects them and make sure these lakes are here for the next generation,” Edwards said. “That’s what motivates me every day.”
