Behind a dominant pitching performance from Robyn Herron and a grand slam from Ella McDowell, No. 7/9 Arkansas defeated No. 12/15 Georgia 6-0 Sunday at Bogle Park to claim its opening SEC series.
The Razorbacks improved to 21-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Herron earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while striking out 10 and allowing just three hits and three walks. The outing marked her sixth career seven-inning shutout and her 15th career game with double-digit strikeouts.
Arkansas took the lead in the first inning when Tianna Bell drove in Brinli Bain with an RBI single. Bain’s hit earlier in the inning extended her reached-base streak to 23 games.
The Razorbacks broke the game open in the second inning when McDowell launched a grand slam to left-center field to make it 5-0.
Bell added the final run in the sixth inning with a solo home run, her team-leading eighth of the season. She finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while McDowell drove in four runs with her grand slam.
Arkansas’ defense also helped seal the victory, turning a line-drive double play in the seventh inning to end the game.
Georgia fell to 19-7 overall and 1-2 in SEC play.
